Poker For Beginners
I figured I’d put something together entitled poker for beginners being that most strategy guides these days seemed to be aimed at making you a poker professional. The main thing to learn as a beginner is what hand beats what. The hand rankings run down like this: Best hand in poker is the royal flush. [...]
Blinds
There are two types of blinds in Texas Hold Em, the small blind and the big blind. The small blind is placed by the person sitting directly to the left of the dealer. The small blind is 1/2 of the total size of the current bet. If the bet is currently 10 then the small blind would put 5 into the pot before seeing his cards. The blinds must be posted before anyone is dealt cards. The big blind would be the entire size of the bet. If the bet is 10, the big blind has to put in 10 before the cards are dealt.
Texas Hold Em Tournament Rules
Tournaments vary depending on the rebuy and add on structure. Some tournaments do not allow rebuys at all, others allow rebuys within the first few rounds of play, with an additional add on available at some point during the tournament. A rebuy option allows players who have been knocked out of the tournament to buy back into the tournament for a predetermined amount of money. Let’s say for example, there are an unlimited amount of rebuys allowed within the first three rounds of the tournament. Each rebuy costs $X. So player A gets knocked out in round 1, he then has the option to pay X again to get X amount of chips, which is also predetermined before the tournament.
Rules of Texas Holdem
The rules of Texas Holdem are pretty straight forward. If you have a dealer’s button this will make things move a lot smoother while you’re learning. The person directly to the left of the dealer is the small blind, who must put in 1/2 the size of the bet before seeing any cards. The person directly to the left of the small blind is known as the big blind, who must put in the full size of the bet before seeing any cards. So the dealer deals cards to his or her left, putting 1 card face down in front of each player, then doing so again giving each player 2 cards face down.
