How to place in a tight sit n go turbo tourney

Recently we covered how to fold your way to the money in a loose sit n go tourney. A tight sit n go tourney you actually have to play some hands, but like with the loose tourney, you don’t want to play a lot in the beginning. Players are waiting in the tight tourneys to pick up good hands and move with them. If you pick up enough chips to stay around your starting position, you’ll be good to go when the blinds start increasing. As the blinds increase, picking up pots becomes more worth while. If you pick up something that is listed in the early position hands to play (AA, AK, AQ, KK, QQ) simply move all in. You’ll either pick up the blinds, which when increased are worth taking just to add to your chip stack, or you’ll end up heads up against someone with a great chance to double your chip stack. Less often than not you’ll lose, and the only real times you’ll lose is if you move with AQ and your opponent has AQ or you move with AK and your opponent has KK or AA, or if they move with a lower pair and hit trips, but the odds are in your favor to double through.

Fold your way to victory in a sit n go

Believe it or not if the table is aggressive enough you can fold your way to a paying spot in a sit n go tournament. You won’t win but you will get back your money plus a little bit more. Don’t believe me? It just happened in a turbo sit n go. I had the sit n go going while playing a table game and well, before I knew it there were only 4 players left and I’d played a total of 2 hands. Check for the blind, fold on the flop, go back to what I was doing. Everyone knocked eachother out. Fourth guy went down while I wasn’t paying attention as well.

Taking advantage of the bubble

The bubble is a term used in poker tournaments to refer to the person who goes out just before reaching the money. If 40 people get paid out of 200 then the person going out in 41st place was on the bubble. As sit and go’s are just small tournaments, the bubble applies there as well. Depending on how many players are in the tournament and what rules are set up the number of people getting paid will vary. The following strategies apply mostly to the turbo sit and go’s.

Playing too many sit n go’s at once

I know what you’re thinking, you know how to win at sit n go’s so why not try your luck at several sit n go’s at the same time. Truth be told I just tried 3 at the same time and completely lost track of what I was doing. Blew a chip lead and went out in 4th with top 3 getting paid. You’ll lose track of your chip stack if the windows start all popping up at the same time. It’s not as bad when its 9,8, or 7 handed but once you get lower you have a lot of people trying to fold their way to the money. So suddenly its your turn to act on three tables all at the same time and you don’t remember which position you’re at at the table.
